Michael Duffy's stoppage-time goal handed Shelbourne a painful 1-0 home defeat to Derry City at Tolka Park. The late winner pushes Damien Duff's side down to sixth in the Premier Division table.
Eddie Beach, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Derry, was the busier goalkeeper throughout the contest. He made a series of important saves to keep the Reds level, tipping a Tyler Smith effort around the post before the break and then denying Adam O'Reilly from point-blank range ten minutes into the second half. Derry's Liam Boyce also saw a left-footed effort crash against the crossbar with Beach beaten in the 80th minute.
Shelbourne's missed opportunity
Shelbourne grew into possession after halftime but struggled to turn it into clear chances. Their best opening fell to Sean Moore with just five minutes of normal time remaining. Found six yards out, the attacker side-footed his effort straight at visiting goalkeeper Tom Norcott. That miss proved costly moments later when James Clarke drove forward from midfield and squared the ball for Duffy to side-foot home from close range.
"Then with the game seemingly destined to end goalless, Duffy was the right man in the right place - as he so often is - to score his 10th league goal of the season and snatch the victory for Mark Connolly's side," said Duffy.
The result marks Derry's third consecutive away win against Shelbourne and sees them leapfrog the Reds into fifth place. For Shelbourne, it extends a worrying run of form to just one win in their last eight league matches, a sequence you can review in detail on the club's stats page. The focus now shifts immediately to Friday's home fixture against Drogheda United, who sit ninth. Shelbourne will be aiming to stop the slide and get back to winning ways in front of their own supporters at Tolka Park.
